Jet lag has been a killer as usual and have been wide awake really early in the mornings since I got back , I played in the north east alliance at peterculter this morning with Craig and my nephew Sean , my back has been pretty sore the last two days but I managed to play and shot 67-4 which was good effort , peterculter was in fantastic condition and probably the best greens I've putted on in any alliance
I left Aberdeen last Monday evening to play in three golf days for Aberdeen Asset Management , the first one was in Sydney last Thursday it was my first time in Oz for years which I really enjoyed , next we flew to Tokyo on the Friday to play on the Saturday again I hadn't been in Japan for years so again it was great to spend time there , finally we flew to South Korea for our final day on the Sunday it's a place I've been a wee bit over the years , the course in Korea had four courses on site two of them floodlit and was very busy , we arrived home last night a bit knackered but it's been a fantastic week which thankfully everyone enjoyed #sponsorsdream , massive thanks to all Aberdeen asset staff and customers especially Douglas Connon who accompanied me on the trip.
We didn't hit a shot yesterday due to all the weather delays so it was a pretty long day. I teed off on Saturday morning for my second round at 8.50am and of course it was raining. Again I hit a lot of greens and hit a lot of good putts but really struggled to score - I three putted the last to shoot 69 (-2) which missed the cut by by one shot which is unbelievably frustrating but about right for how things are going at the moment.
Some heavy showers this morning but with no rough scoring this week was always going to be low. I had it -3 after 12 but a snap-hook OB at 13 and a three putt at 14 meant I shot a very poor level par 71. I drove it awful pretty much all day with the club stuck in behind me causing blocks and hooks. I hit some balls after my round and hopefully got it sorted out. Marian is with me this week along with Alan & Val Reid and Brian & Audrey Morrison, which has been good fun. Let's hope the weather improves!
I had Martin Gilbert from Aberdeen Asset Management as my amatuer partner again , we started at Kingsbarns then The Old Course then Carnoustie , Martin missed the cut on a card count back which was disappointing as he'd played well but wasn't to be this year , I finished on -10 which was good enough for 18th place which is much more like it , I hit a lot of greens this week and putted nicely but didn't hole enough , but the signs are more positive and I feel Ive turned the corner , huge congrats to Oliver Wilson on his first win on the European tour after 9 second place finishes over the years , also thanks to Dunhill for another wonderful event.
This week we are in St. Andrews for the Dunhill links championship which is one of my favourite events of the year , I am again playing with Aberdeen Asset Management chief executive and good friend Martin Gilbert , I shot 69-3 this morning which is a decent start but I left a few shots out there and three putted the final two greens which leaves a nasty taste but overall it was a decent enough score as it as breezy.
Craig had another top ten this week at the Tomatin pro am up north which is great to see his hard work beginning to pay off , that's 4th and 7th in his last two events.......... well done pal.
