I was down to see Bob in Largs by 7.30am this morning, via Kilmarnock (after taking the wrong road)   I nipped in passed Mearns Castle via Glasgow City Centre (after taking the wrong road) to see Adam.  Sense of direction has never been a strong point of mine!!! I worked on my right foot at impact with Bob.   It had been lifting up to early on the downswing.   We need it to roll to the left instead of lifting.   With Adam I showed him what I had been doing with the putter which is watching a spot on the ground during the stroke, this should stop my head moving all over the place.

I had a meeting with George Booth (Pentagon Frieght) this morning during which they had a fire drill, good job it was a nice day.   Thanks for the coffee George but nae biscuits!!!.   I changed my grips on my irons and tried out new wedges with legal grooves, there was a lot less spin with them, so it should be interesting in January.   I am going to Largs tomorrow to see Bob and I'm also seeing Adam in Glasgow on the way home.

Marian and I started training this morning for our sponsored walk next year.   There are 5 of us walking the West Highland Way, which is 95miles from Milngavie to Fort William.   This morning we walked to the Duthie Park and back, which was around 9miles.     I read in today's P & J that Aberdeen Journals gave Colin Montgomerie £10,000 for his's a pity there isn't a golfer born and bred in Aberdeen who had a Foundation who could benefit from 10K to help local kids!!!

I have spent a fair bit of time in the gym the last few days which has been enjoyable (not).   Adam has been on at me for ages to get my eyes over the ball at address with the putter (Marian also noticed it in Portugal so it must be right) so I have been working really hard on that.   I was at the dentist today for a filling (Thanks Mr Thomson for the favourite)   I have been on the school run which is nice as I don't get the chance very often.   Craig and I hit balls at Aspire in the evening, he's really coming on.

Castello Masters 70+69+71+67=277 (-7) T40

I flew out on Tuesday to Valencia via Paris which didn't arrive until late.   The courtesy car driver got lost before we even left Valencia, we went round in circles for ages eventually getting to my hotel after nearly two in the car.   The journey should have taken 40 minutes, he kept saying 'I don't speak English'   The course this week was fine but not great, they have trees in bunkers which is annoying but very Spanish.   I finished seven under for the week, I struggled with the hitting a bit during the first three days but played awesome in the final round and missed quite a few putts.   The weather was superb most of the week.   I played with Monty on Saturday and he was telling everyone he that he was flying home Easyjet, it was the first time he'd flown with them.   He played good but putted magnificient.   I started back in the gym this's definately time to get fit!!

Portugal Masters 69+73=142 (-2)

I flew to Lisbon on sunday night and then jumped in a taxi to the Algarve.   Two and a half hours later and nearly 400euros I arrived at my hotel.   Marian and the boys also arrived Sunday night to spend the week which is always good.   I spent a lot of time on Tuesday and Wednesday searching the tour vans for a new putter, eventually settling on a Scotty Cameron Kombi.   I played nicely on Thursday and putted slightly better to start the week with a 69.   Before my round on Friday the kombi felt awful so Andy went to the locker to find replacement which was not one of my better decisions as I putted awful all day.   I ended up missing the cut by two shots which was incredible as I hit it really good again.   I have been struggling with the putting for a while now and a change of luck would be nice!!!

Madrid Masters 70+70+69+70=279 (-9)

The course this week was in poor condition with preferred lies within one club length all week.   The greens were ok and with little or no rough the scoring was always going to be low.   I stayed as I always do at the Mirasierra Suites, I feel really comfortable there and always sleep great.   My long game was in fantastic shape and I managed to give myself so many birdie chances.   My short game wasn't great and my putting was very poor indeed.   I played both weekend rounds with Jose Maria Olazabal who I always get on really well with.  The weather was good in Madrid which makes it so much easier for everyone.   I will be on the Odyssey tour truck first thing Tuesday morning looking for a new weapon and a change of luck.    I flew to Lisbon on Sunday evening and then jumped in a taxi to Faro, Marian and the boys are meeting me there for next weeks Portugal Masters.

I just want to let you all know that my diary piece will now be written on a weekly basis, which will give me a chance to talk about something other than missing putts........which is true but getting very repetitive.

Bert, my father in law dropped me at the airport this morning for my flight to Madrid via Amsterdam.   I went to the gym when I arrived as I need to loose a few pounds and get fitter as Marian and I along with Murray and Lynda are walking the West Highland Way next summer for I need to be prepared!!   We had a meeting last night with Murray and Lynda regarding the Foundation for next year.   They have done an excellent job again this year, we're so lucky to have them.

Dunhill Links 3RD 75+68+72=215 (-1)

I was level par 72 at Carnoustie today.   I was three under for my front nine and three over for the back nine.   I didn't play quite so good but still good enough to break 70.   Overall this week I have hit it awesome and shot the highest score I possibly could every day.   It's been very very frustrating with the putter, I have hit a huge number of fairways and greens but that is not what the game is all about, it's about getting the ball in the hole....which I have struggled with again this week.

Friday 2nd October 2009

Dunhill Links 2RD 75+68=143 (-1)

I was four under today but again missed a lot of putts.   I did putt better than yesterday but I could have been 5 or 6 better.   I actually hit the edge of the hole 6 or 7 times today with perfect speed, so much better.   I bogeyed two of my last four holes which was disappointing after hitting it good again.   I play Carnoustie tomorrow and the forecast is apparently really poor, so not ideal when you're playing the toughest of the three courses.

Dunhill Links 1RD 75 (+3)

My putting reached new levels of despair today with 39 putts, 15 x  2 putts and 3 x  three putts with no single putts at all.   I played really good, only missing one green and two fairways and I gave myself 9 or 10 good birdie chances.   I worked on something a bit different with my putting after my round, hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
