Volvo Masters 2RD

Torrentail rain and a howling gale made the course play extremely tough today. Play was suspended when I was on the 11th fairway. I am only one over for the round which I think is a very good effort. The forecast for tomorrow is also very poor, so it must be odds on for a 54 hole event.

Volvo Masters 1RD 76 (+5)

Yes, you guessed it........played good and putted awful. I had 36 putts today which was 7 or 8 too many. I hit one poor shot at the 8th and got punished with a double bogey. The wind really got up on the back nine making it tricky to score.
Wednesday 29th October 2008
Only the top 25 on the Order of Merit played in the pro am today, so I spent the day hitting balls, chipping and putting. It was very windy today so it it's the same tomorrow the course will be a big challenge. I'm looking forward to it.
Tuesday 28th October 2008
I went up to the course early this morning, it is in fantastic condition as always with the greens running quite fast. There is a new tee at the 16th which is much better. There are certain places you just can't go on this course and you need to be patient........good job it's my middle name.
Monday 27th October 2008
I have missed the last two Volvo Masters so it's nice to be back especially as this is the last one. I went up to the course and spent the majority of the time on the putting green working on a chalk line. I also did a bit of short game as I struggled with that last week.

Castello Masters 4RD 71+70+71+67=279 (-5)

The good news is...I played awesome today, the bad news is I holed very little but at least I am giving myself chances for birdies. I shot 67 and could easily have been 5 or 6 less. I fly to Malaga tonight and I'll have tomorrow off then play Valderrama on Tuesday morning.

Castello Masters 3RD 71+70+71=212 (-1)

My long game was again very good today but my short game was awful, it's a pity because I'm giving myself so many chances for birdies and getting nothing out of it but that's golf. Some you win, some you don't. Come on you Dons!!

Castello Masters 2RD 71+70=141 (-1)

I played very, very good today but yet again putted poorly. I hit it inside fifteen feet ten times and only shot one under par. I know you all are thinking I'm like a broken record but I am playing some of the best golf of my career and missing so many putts. Maybe they will go in over the weekend.

Castello Masters 1RD 71 (LVL)

I got off to a poor and was three over after eight holes, I then played really good to get it back to level and I probably should have been less as I missed a few chances. The course reminds me of Valderamma...very, very frustrating to play because of the overhanging trees and sloppy greens but I did a good of staying in it especially after my start.
Wednesday 22nd October 2008
I played in the pro am at 8.45am this morning, the course is in good condition but it's very fiddley. There are a lot of irons and lay up shots off the tees. I hit the ball really solid again today.
Monday 20th October 2008
We arrived home at 11.30am and Craig was down playing at Deeside by 12.00 He really has got the golfing bug which is great. Marian and I had our end of season meeting with Murray and Lynda Carnie who run the Junior Golf Programme. They have done a fantastic job and things are looking good for next year. I fly to Valencia tomorrow morning for the Castello Masters.

Portugal Masters 4RD 70+65+70+67=272 (-16) 2nd

67 today to finish 16 under and second on my own! I played very very good this week. The last few months I have felt competitive again which is a great feeling. My thanks to Adam Hunter and Neil Marr who have both worked very hard on my behalf. Having Marian and the boys this week was brilliant, they really enjoyed walking round with me.

Portugal Masters 3RD 70+65+70=205 (-11)

My third round was the weirdest I have ever seen and it's not finished yet. I had a double bogey, a triple bogey and two other bogeys but I also had 3 birdies and 2 eagles before play was suspended for lightening. I am on the 15th fairway at -11 for the tournament and we will finish off tomorrow at 7.50am

Portugal Masters 2RD 70+65=135 (-9)

65 blows today, I played really good and knocked in a few putts. The weather was a bit cooler which I much prefer. Everyone I say that too thinks I'm weird but I would rather be cold than hot. There are quite a few Scottish people here which is always nice. My ball striking was again very very good today.

It was extremely sad to hear of Seve's brain tumour, he was the Arnold Palmer of Europe. I remember the first time I played with him was in the Spanish Open in 1992. I never slept the night before and I got to the first tee really early and I remember Seve walking up the length of the tee and I got more nervous with every step he took. For me, he was Europes best ever player and a genius with a wedge and I wish him a speedy recovery.

Portugal Masters 1RD 70 (-2)

Two under par round of 70 today, the rough is brutal this year so 2 under is never a bad effort. My ball striking was pretty good but I did hit some poor shots. It is really tough if you miss fairways or greens, the weather was beautiful again, the perfect temperature for golf.
Wednesday 15th October 2008
Marian and the boys are with me this week in Portugal which is always good, they came last year and really enjoyed it. The hotel is really nice and close to the course and the weather so far has been brilliant. I wasn't in the pro am today so I played 9 holes with Gary Orr and Chris Wood early this morning. The course has more rough this year which was badly needed but that is the only real difference from last year.

Madrid Master 4RD 72+68+72+67=279 (-5) T29

Today was by far my best ball striking day of the year. I had fourteen birdie chances but again the putter let me down. I shot 67 but it could have been really, really low which was frustrating but at least I am hitting it really good. I can't get home tonight so I will be staying in Amsterdam airport and catching the first flight to Aberdeen in the morning.
Saturday 11th October 2008

Madrid Masters 3RD 72+68+72=212 (-1)

I was 72 today which is one over par, I played good but took 33 putts which at this level is five or six too many. I played with Pablo Larrazabal who shot a 62, he played and putted awesome, all his putts were going at the hole. It seems the older you get, the more you dribble them.
Friday 10th October 2008

Madrid Master 2RD 72+68=140 (-2)

A tale of two halves today, I played awesome on the front nine and also putted well to be out in four under par. I had good chances for birdies at the 10th, 11th and the 12th but missed them all. I struggled coming in and did well to make pars. The greens were poor in the afternoon so you're never sure if it's you or the poor surface but overall it was a very encouraging day where I actually holed a few putts, which was very nice.
Thursday 9th October 2008

Madrid Master 1RD 72(+1)

I was three under after six holes even with missing three good chances and then played the next five holes in four over, eventually to finished with a 72. Todays round is exactly where I am at the moment....a lot of good but no confidence with the putter. I hit so many good shots today but shot one over!!
Wednesday 8th October 2008
The pro am this morning was delayed by an hour for fog which meant the afternoon pro am was cut to nine holes. I went up to the course early this morning to work on a few things. My game feels pretty good but I'm just not scoring. My clubs turned up at midnight which was a bonus.......at least I'm the lost luggage champ!!!
Tuesday 7th October 2008

I am in Madrid this week for the Madrid Masters which is being played at Club de Campo. The Tour have visited there many times over the years.

Hats off to Robert Karlsson who has had an incredible couple of years. I played with him a few months ago and he said patience and working hard on his short game made all the difference. He is the same age as me, so if he can do it then so can I.

Saturday 4th October 2008

Dunhill Links 3RD 72+77+76=225 (+9) MC

I played the Old Course today and played pretty good again but putted awful for the third day in a row. This week has been the biggest disappointment of the season. My record at the Dunhill is pretty good but when you putt poorly it's impossible to score. My thanks to Martin for his company this week, it was good fun as always.
Friday 3rd October 2008

Dunhill Links 2RD 72+77=149 (+5)

I was 77 today but it doesn't tell the whole story. I played okay and only hit two poor shots both of which cost me a double bogey. Yet again my putting was poor and it was blowing pretty hard. I am now five over with the cut looking likely to be one or two over par so I need a good one tomorrow. I putted for ages after my round so hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Thursday 2nd October 2008

Dunhill Links 1RD 72 (LVL)

I played nicely today but the putter was very cold so I only managed level par which was a pity because I played better than that. Scoring was good today mainly because of the nice weather.
Wednesday 1st October 2008
I played a few holes at Carnoustie on my way down yesterday, the course is in great shape, as always. I played nine holes at Kingsbarns this morning and nine holes on the Old Course this afternoon. The Old Course is in the best shape I have ever seen. I am playing with Martin Gilbert from Aberdeen Asset Management which is always great fun, this is one of my favourite events all year.
