I had a meeting at the Marcliffe with Colin Farquarson, Nicola Melville and Stewart Spence where we ( Paul Lawrie Golf Centre ) agreed to continue as main sponsor of Scottish ladies tartan tour ( new name ) and Spencey agreed to sponsor one of new 36 hole events
Marian and I were up in Fort William to receive an honoury fellowship from The University of the Highlands and Islands by HRH Princess Royal for our work with the Foundation which is more for all the people who work so hard to make things happen especially Marian and our foundation manager Michael MacDougall
Wednesday / Thursday
I flew to Frankfurt at 05 30am to spend two days at Caledonia by CPM putter company as I have signed a three year deal to play and endorse their products and I was getting a new model made for me which they did in 2 days quite incredible really !
I was over at the offices of NCS surveys to present a cheque to the Charlie House charity from Intermoor and PLF , NCS won the Intermoor golf day at PLGC where proceeds went to Charlie House
I was at Markethill primary school in Turriff this morning to give all the primary 7s a talk about fitness and nutrition and also perform a q&a which as always was good fun. We then met Brian and Audrey Morrison at Celebrations for lunch which was lovely
I opened the new shop for be Inspire flooring in Inverurie this morning and did a book signing. The new shop is fantastic, myself and Marian wish Barry and all his staff the best of luck. At night myself and Marian were up at Peterhead GC to hand out prizes to all the winners from the year and also do a book signing and q&a for all the members it was a fantastic evening which we both really enjoyed
I walked round Elgin GC this morning with youngest son Michael who was playing in the second round of the SGU academy winter series he shot 73 +4 which was pretty good as he struggled off the tee and on the greens which were very good for this time of the year
I played at Montrose today in the North East alliance, the weather was brutal with some of the worst conditions I've ever played in so 70+1 wasn't to bad , the greens were excellent but was disappointing how many tees were off mats and were way forward of normal tees but it is winter I suppose but the alliance is a competition.
Marian and myself were up in Turriff today, first stop was Morrison Motors to have some pics done with Brian and Eddie as we have done a sponsorship deal for next year then Brian and Audrey took us to the Fyfe Arms for lunch which was very nice. We then went to Turriff utd v Lossiemouth football which was good and ended with Turriff winning 7-0 the whole day was great fun huge thanks to everyone for looking after us they have a fantastic set up at Turriff utd.
Struggled off the tee today so 69-3 wasn't a bad effort but obviously I needed a lower one to get in next week which is very disappointing but I havnt played or putted well enough so I've no problems with it ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh now that's better !!!!!
This week has been really good and one of the best run events of the year with fantastic hospitality by everyone involved. This was my first visit to Turkey but it certainly won't be my last.
This year has been a huge disappointment especially considering the events I have been playing in so its hard work now for the next 5 weeks before Royal Trophy at the end of December
66-6 today which is much more like It , I putted nicely today which was the difference I put a little more weight on my toes at address and slightly more weight on my left side which made the putter automatically go back lower to the ground then slightly up through it , I probably need at least 65 tomorrow to have a chance of Dubai next week
Tee to green was very good today hitting 11/13 fairways and 15/18 greens to shoot 70-2 which is much better than yesterday's effort. I also putted nicely without holing much , I need a nice and low weekend which I've done plenty of times in the past so why not now. It was a beautiful day with little or no wind but yet again the pace of play was shocking it seems to be getting worse if that's possible.
I had a very poor round of 74+2 today, I hit some really poor shots so overall 74 was about right , I had 31 putts today which is decent and the new putter felt nice so the problems lay elsewhere. I didn't hit enough fairways and really struggled in general but as they say....... there's always tomorrow.
i went up to the course early this morning and did some putting drills first then some short game followed by a long spell on the range working on slower backswing and changeover then faster through the ball which is a drill I have done quite a bit over the years. I spoke with European Tour radio this afternoon and said with the tournaments I have been in this year to be 64th in order of merit is very poor, so I need to improve that over the final two weeks. I feel like something good could happen, lets hope so.
This week I am in Turkey for the Turkish Airlines open played at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal course , it was a long day yesterday as I had to take three flights to get here. The hotel which is on site is top notch and the hospitality so far is different class. I played in the pro am today which was a 12pm shotgun with 3 Turkish guys who were all very nice and good fun. There is also a pro am tomorrow for the other half of the field so I will just do some practice on some of the stuff I have been working on with Andrew Locke. The temperature was perfect today with no wind.
I played at Royal Aberdeen this morning with 3 guys from the Caledonia putter company who are based in Germany. I have been testing their products for a while and feel great. Marian and I then took them to the Marcliffe for dinner which was fantastic as always. The course was excellent for this time of year with quite a few changes since the last time I played there with a huge amount of work being done on the bunkers it's always nice to play there.
I had a lesson with Andrew Locke this morning at PLGC. We worked on keeping more weight on my toes during backswing as I have been sinking onto my heels a bit going back which I will work on this week quite a bit.
I walked round at Ellon with Craig , Phillip McLean , Kris Nicol and Jordan Findlay in the North East alliance, it was good opportunity to see them all play , Phillip and Kris tied with 68 , Jordan was 3rd with 69 and Craig finished fourth overall with 71 which was decent effort in his first pro outing.
