It was a bit of a struggle on my front nine this morning +2 but then I eagled my tenth hole and birdied my 12th, was still -1 for the tournament with 4 holes to play but hit a poor knock down shot to make bogey at 15th then hit my second shot left at 16th and made stupid triple bogey and bogeyed my last hole to play last 4 holes in +5 shocking shocking effort. Its been years since I gave away playing at weekend so easily.... so hacked off at myself.
I got off to the perfect start with birdies at 3 of my first four holes then hit some awful shots to be +2 with 3 to play, then made birdies at 16 and 17 and should have birdied the last but took 3 from the edge of the green to shoot 72 lvl. It was a real struggle off the tee today but I hit some balls after my round and hit it pretty good working on more right side on downswing. Hopefully there will be less wind in the morning.
I played in the afternoon shotgun pro am today which took 5 hours 35mins which is as ever a complete joke...... too many teams (26) and a pretty strong cold breeze didnt help. The course this week is pretty new and very exposed with little or no trees to protect it. Its in very good condition and is a decent layout. I struggled a wee bit today but lost the will to live out there as play was sooooooo slow.
Marian dropped Craig and I off at the airport as he was flying to London to play the Euro Pro event at Burhill and I was heading to Malmo for this weeks Nordea Masters, I hit some balls on the range but it was blowing a gale so didnt want to hit too many , the course is very opened and exposed so could be a windy week.
I popped into PLGC in the morning to hit a few balls and work on my putting stroke then went up to see my Mum in Cove , then we went out to Elrick to see the latest MacDougall arrival then finished off the day with a chipper from Jumbos ( brilliant )
I played with Robert Karlsson this morning which was the fifth event in a row that we've played together at some point during the week , I shot 67-5 which jumped me up to 21st tie overall . I hit it pretty much the same but managed to knock in a few putts which always makes a difference , this week was only my second week back after injury so I'm encouraged with how I've played I certainly felt stronger today , I head home tonight then fly to Sweden on Tuesday morning , congrats to Rory McIlroy who finished one shot ahead of Shane Lowry.
It was a very odd day as I was +5 after 10 holes then -4 for the last 8 holes. I actually felt I hit it pretty good even though I kept making bogeys which was strange but sometimes it happens. It was pleasing to fight back over the closing holes, lets hope I kick on tomorrow. We had a delay this morning due to overnight rain which made the greens incredibly slow but all the staff did a wonderful job getting the course ready for play.
There was much more wind and a few heavy showers made it pretty tough this morning so my 71-1 was a good effort , I was out in +1 after bogey at the third and back in -2 with birdies at 16 and 17
Congrats to our Foundation manager Michael MacDougall and wife Amy who gave birth to their third daughter this morning little Cleo
We had two delays for lightning which meant my tee time was delayed by two and a half hours, I shot 72 lvl which was frustrating as that was the most it could have been . I've been struggling for a while now to score and get something out of a round but sometimes that's the way it goes . I putted lovely again today without holing much and missed from 3 feet at the last which doesn't leave a good taste but back tomorrow.
I played in the 8am shotgun pro am this morning with team of Jeremy Kyle ( Jeremy Kyle show ) Mark Austin (news at ten ) and Stuart Robinson ( journalist) we all played total crap but we had a great time going round. The course is in very good condition and played pretty tough this morning. I'm still feeling pretty lousy with a chest infection and a severe headache so lets hope its true what they say - "beware of the injured golfer!!" I hit some balls when we finished, working on lower hands at impact as hit quite a few shots out the neck and right this morning.
I flew down to London this morning for this weeks BMW Pga championship at wentworth , this week is a massive event , great venue superb sponsor good crowds etc . I hit a few balls after lunch presented a competition winner with some wilson staff equipment and spent some time putting . I play in the morning shotgun pro am tomorrow with Jeremy Kyle as my celebrity so looking forward to that.
I got off to the perfect start this morning with birdies at the first and third holes but with the course really drying out and the pins tucked away it was tough to score. I eventually shot 73 +1 which I was raging with as I missed from 5 feet for birdie at 17 then bogeyed the 18th , but after nearly four months out with injury it was still a good effort and was certainly nice to be back competing again. I flew back to Edinburgh eventually getting home at 3am
Pretty much the same breeze as yesterday again made it tough to score especially when you miss the greens as rough around them is brutal. I went up to the course a little earlier than normal today to work on what Jose Maria had mentioned last night about my putting which really helped as I putted lovely all day , but typically I really struggled with my iron play today . I shot 74+2 which was about right but I'm still raging at playing the last 6 holes in four over par
There was quite a bit more wind this afternoon which made the course a couple of shots tougher than yesterday , I shot 72 lvl which was disappointing as I played better than that but gave away so many silly shots today but it wasn't easy , I'm now -2 for the event in a tie for 8th so nicely positioned for the weekend , I asked Jose Maria Olazabal if he could see anything with my putting which he did so he gave me a quick lesson which was really good of him , lets hope it works
I wasn't sure what to expect today as I struggled a little yesterday and havent played a competitive round for 3 and a half months but hit it really good and gave myself so many birdie chances , I shot 70-2 which was decent as the course is pretty long with some tough rough in places , it is really good to be back out there competing again I've missed it , had a bit of a sore right shoulder warming up but popped some pills and manned up ( Marian would have been proud !!) We were almost 5 hours to get round today which is complete joke so pace of play hasn't improved in my time away !!
I played the Pro-Am this morning at 9 15am finishing at 2 40pm so just the 5 hours 25 mins , the course is in very good condition and playing pretty long after some recent rain , I haven't played here for a few years and I had forgotten how good a course it is . I am playing tomorrow with Jose Maria Olazabal and Robert Karlsson so another quick round in store !!
Craig and I were at pittodrie today for the Motherwell game which ended very bizzarely with a goal for Motherwell with the last kick of the season which was gutting to be honest , Aberdeen totally controlled the game but sometimes it doesn't go your way , even though 3rd position in the league is a massive improvement from previous seasons
I played 9 holes at PLGC this morning with Erik Christofferson of Seabrokers and two of his guests (then drove down to Edinburgh airport to fly to Barcelona with Ryanair for this weeks Spanish open
I woke up this morning all keen to get out onto the course but when I opened the curtains the rain was battering the window !! Typical , I hit some balls and worked on short game between the showers , touch wood everything feels good
Michael had a practice round at the glen golf club in north Berwick today for the Scottish under 16s so it was an early start to get down there for 10am , Craig came with me and we hit balls at kings acre then played 12 holes at luffness new which was the first time I'd played there both Craig and I were impressed with the course and the condition , we eventually got home at 9pm
I had a golf day at PLGC this afternoon with Rowan drilling and their guests , they bought it at the AOGA golf event at Gleneagles with all proceeds going to PL foundation which was very good of them , I performed a clinic then played 2 holes with each group and finished off by presenting the prizes , it was really good fun enjoyed by everyone
Huge congrats to Laura Murray who is attached to PLGC for winning at murcar links in the PLGC ladies tartan tour event sponsored by saltire energy , Laura Has been working hard so its nice to see that paying off
We had our PL foundation sponsors day at castle Stuart today which we ran as a pro am with our sponsored professionals each playing with 3 sponsors, the weather was a bit wet on the front nine but soon cleared , we laid on a first bus which left from the Marcliffe at 7 45am returning at 10pm so a pretty long day for everyone but it was great fun and enjoyed by all , huge thanks to Claus the owner of caledonia putters for supplying the prizes which included one of their limited edition putters for nearest the pin at the 11th , everyone at castle Stuart for looking after us so well , our sponsored pros for looking after the sponsors, Michael Macdougall and mrs L for organising and of course all our fantastic sponsors
I picked up the caledonia putters team from the Marcliffe as they are over to receive lessons from Andrew Locke for 2 days then join us for our foundation sponsors day at castle Stuart on Wednesday , I played 10 holes at royal Aberdeen with Craig and Michael where the course was magnificent as always . I was in to see Gillian Mitchell my osteopath in the evening and she is happy with the improvement in my neck.
I played 9 holes at Deeside GC this morning with Craig which was the first full Shots I've hit for around 5 weeks , apart from the driver which wasn't great the rest was ok but it was fantastic to play golf again
Craig and I played 14 holes again at Deeside and I was -4 but more importantly it felt good and no reaction from playing yesterday , I was then at PLGC as we had a new target golf comp for under 15s and our usual under 10s and 12s flag event which apart from a couple of showers went really well , congrats to all the winners and those who didn't get a prize get practising so you win something next time
Yesterday I was at Montrose to watch Craig play in euro pro event , it was a horrible day with heavy rain quite a breeze and pretty cold . I pulled Craig's trolley as the weather was awful but managed to stay out of his way , he shot 77 +6 but apart from knocking it out of bounds at the 17th did very little wrong , huge credit to all the volunteer scores etc as it was one of the toughest days ever
