I flew from Aberdeen at 12pm on Eastern Airways to Bristol the jumped in a courtesy car to Celtic  Manor for this week's Saab Wales Open.   I had a quick bite to eat then headed down to the range to hit some balls.   Chris Trott from Taylor Made brought me over a new Burner 2.0 white headed driver to try so I'll give it a go in the pro am tomorrow.   The hotel this week is one of the best we stay in all year so it's always a good week especially as I've won here lots of good memories.   Just had penne bolognese, thick cut chips and a bottle of Heineken......not to be beaten!
Sunday 29th May 2011

I was up at Cruden Bay today with Craig and Michael who were both playing in the junior pennant for Deeside, the match ended 3-3.   It was extremely windy with some holes unplayable but it was the same for both teams.   The course looked in good nick.  I hit some balls then watched the boys play the back nine.

Saturday 28th May 2011

I flew into Aberdeen at 10.15am this morning then headed straight to Michael's Sports Day at Countesswells.

In the evening we all watched the Champions's League Final which was a disappointing result but when Barca play like that it's very hard for even Man Utd to beat them.

BMW PGA 2RD 74+75=149 (+7)

I shot 75 +4 today to be seven over total and going home.   I played really good going out 33 -2 to be only one over for the tournament but played horrendous on the back nine 43 blows.   I played some good stuff this week but unfortunately too many mistakes mean I'm heading home tomorrow as tonight's flight is full.

BMW PGA 1RD 74 (+3)

It was quite a tough day with heavy showers and a strong swirling wind.   I played really good but had an 8 at the 12th.   I finished with a 74 +3 which was a pity as I hit it good.   The only poor shots I hit all day were both at the 12th.   Luke Donald nipped it round in 64 which was very good this morning.   After my round I was presented with my golfer of the month award for March by Keith Waters from the European Tour which was very nice.

Wednesday 25th May 2011
I played in the morning shotgun pro am with a Sky Sports team that included Matt Le Tissier the ex Southampton footballer.   He was great company and a handy golfer playing off a 6 handicap.   My team all played well and managed to win the team event with -16 which was a great effort.   My foot was much better today and I hit it nicely.   The course is in very good condition and the changes to the 8th and the 18th greens are much better.   I tee off tomorrow at 8.45am with Thomas Aitken and Soren Kjeldsen.
Tuesday 24th May 2011
I had breakfast in the hotel with two of my team from yesterdays pro am   (Iain Powell and Alan Reid)   The topic of conversation was of course the ash cloud as Alan's flight back to Aberdeen was cancelled so he came up to the course with me today.   After the prize giving last night I had a session with Cornel who's a South Africian physio who did some work on my foot and groin which has been bugging me again this week.   It was much better today but I decided to take it easy most of the day.   I had another session with Cornel late afternoon so hopefully I will be ok for Thursday.
Monday 23rd May 2011

I flew down to London this morning for this week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.   There was a pro am today to raise funds for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation and Cancer Research UK.   I played and took a team, it was extremely windy but we all still had a great time.   £618,000 was raised which is an incredible amount of money.   Jose Maria Olazabal gave a speech at the end which was absolutely fantastic......he's such a class act.

My foot has been really sore again lately which might mean getting another cortisone injection.

Saturday 21st May 2011

Marian and I couldn't get home last night so we flew home early afternoon direct from Malaga.   It was good to play in the Matchplay again but I was severely hacked off at myself yesterday at going home early but I suppose that's golf.

I popped down to Deeside to hit some balls when I got home then we all meet there for supper.   The boys were playing in the medal but neither of them were any good.   Now it's home to watch Britain's Got Talent in between hitting hundreds of putts.

Wednesday 18th May 2011

Last night we had a photo shoot with all the players and then the gala dinner in the Volvo lounge.   I sat at the European Tour table which was a good laugh.   Today we had a shotgun pro am at 9am.   The course is in magnificient condition especially the greens which are really quick.   I don't play at all tomorrow, both my matches are on Friday.

Tuesday 17th May 2011
I flew from Aberdeen at 7am this morning on Flybe to Gatwick and then Aer Lingus to Malaga for this week's Volvo World Matchplay.   I got in the field after winning the Andalucia Open which is brilliant.   We are playing at Finca Cortesin which I haven't played before but hear great things about.   I have just had a haircut in my room, I was suppose to get one yesterday at home but was too busy.   We have a gala dinner tonight then the pro am tomorrow.   I'm really looking forward to the week.   I play both my round robin matches on Friday.   I play against Ian Poulter in the morning and then Francesco Molinari in the afternoon.

Iberdrola Open 4RD 68+69+72+70=279 (-1)

The forecast was for strong winds and much cooler which was bang on.   The course has played tricky enough but today it was a real good test.   I played good but again it was very tough to get the ball close enough to make birdies.   I shot 70 to finish one under for the week which looks likely to be another top ten.   I was very pleased with my finish of two under for the last four holes especially after taking a double bogey 5 at the 13th.   I fly home tonight then have tomorrow off before flying back out to Spain on Tuesday for next week's Volvo World Matchplay.

Iberdrola Open 3RD 68+69+72=209 (-1)

It was one of those days where if we played for a flier it came out soft and vice versa.   I hit some nice shots and actually played ok but shot 72 +2.   The course is very, very frustrating as you can see by the scoring.   It's difficult to get it close.   I missed a couple of very short putts today but thankfully tomorrow is another day.

Congratulations to Sir Alex Ferguson and Man Utd on winning the Premier League today, his record  is amazing.

Iberdrola Open 2RD 68+69=137 (-3)

I hit it very poorly today so 69 was a good effort.   This is not an excuse but I've struggled with my neck this week and have been taking painkillers each day.   It's a bit of a struggle with the woods but not too bad.   I went to the range to work on taking the club away a little slower off the ball which seemed to do the trick.   The good news is my chipping and putting were excellent today.   Sometimes you are going to struggle and you just need to grind out a score which I did today.   I would like to apologize to everyone watching the coverage today for swearing on the 8th tee.   I've just had a roasting from my darling wife, I should know better at my age!!

Iberdrola Open 1RD 68 (-2)

I had a pretty good day shooting 68 -2 which was a decent score in the afternoon as there was a wee bit of wind and the course was quite bouncy.
Wednesday 11th May 2011

I played in the pro am this morning teeing off at 9.30am and finishing at 2.50pm.   Five hours and 20 mins is longer than normal but my playing partners were all nice people so it was, of course no problem.   Jose Maria Olazabal has made some good changes to the course over the years and it is now a very good test of golf and it's in great condition.

Seve's funeral was today which was very sad indeed, we will all miss him terribly.   Hopefully the idea of changing the Tour's logo to one of Seve will gather some pace as the great man paved the way for us all.

Tuesday 10th May 2011
I had a very quiet day today, I went up to the course at 9am and spent a few hours working on my short game.   I played 9 holes and then had lunch and afterwards I hit some balls.   Like yesterday I went down to the pool in the afternoon.   It was really hot again which is apparently the forecast for the rest of the week.   The course is in magnificient condition and has really improved since the last time I played here a few years ago.
Monday 9th May 2011
The flight last night from Barcelona to Palma was only 35 minutes which was a surprise....mind you Geography was never my strong subject at school.   Come to think of it neither was Maths, English, etc etc.   I went up to the course this morning and did some chipping and putting for a few hours then I came back to the hotel and sat by the pool (terrible life I know)   I hired a bike early evening to have a look around, much to the amusement of the caddies who saw me.....all good fun.   I will play the course tomorrow with Al Forsyth.   Fantastic win for Man Utd last night....on yersell Fergie.
Sunday 8th May 2011

Spanish Open 4RD 72+71+72+67=282 (-6)

It was very hot and humid today with hardly any wind.   I played good and managed to knock in a few birdie putts.     I shot 67 -5 to finish -6 overall and in a tie for 5th.   I normally struggle the first week back out after a break so this week was a bit of a bonus.   I fly to Majorca tonight and hopefully I will continue my good run of form.
Saturday 7th May 2011

Spanish Open 3RD 72+71+72=215 (-1)

I played awful on the front nine today (+2) then hit it really good but couldn't buy a putt on the back nine (-2) to shoot level and finished one under for the tournament.   It was quite a bit tougher today as there was more wind.

It is very about Seve, I found out when I arrived at the course this morning as I didn't have the tv on this morning.   He was my idol growing up.   The first time I played with him I never slept the night before and was wetting myself on the first tee.   He was a legend and an inspiration to so many people.   RIP Seve.

Friday 6th May 2011

Spanish Open 2RD 72+71=143 (-1)

It was a very similar day to yesterday, I played good and had it three under for a while but again made some silly mistakes.   I finished with a 71 to be one under overall.   There was a little more wind today which made the front nine play very long.

There was a statement from Seve Ballesteros's family today saying that his health has taken a turn for the worse which is very sad.   I have kept in regular contact with Seve and his nephew Ivan.   Hopefully his health will improve.

Thursday 5th May 2011

Spanish Open 1RD 72 (LVL)

I was raging when I came off the course today as I finished double bogey, bogey for level par 72.   It's a real pity as I played good and should really have been at least three under but I wasn' nae much I can do apart from get stuck in tomorrow.
Wednesday 4th May 2011
I played in the pro am this morning with three Italian guys who spoke no English at all which was difficult but they were all good guys.   One of them fell in a bunker, powakaddy and all and it took all three of us to lift him out.......he saw the funny side.   The course this week is a Greg Norman design and is very very good, the front nine is long but with quite generous greens.   The back nine is short and narrow with most holes surrounded by trees.   After last nights rain the course is a little soft but still in fantastic condition.   They also have a very good range and short game area.   I play at 1pm tomorrow.   At the moment I'm sitting proof reading my autobiography which is due out this Christmas.
Tuesday 3rd May 2011
I hit balls and chipped and putted most of the morning then after lunch I tested some new irons and wedges for Wilson which look great.   I had a tournament committee meeting at 4.30pm which lasted till 7pm.   I have now justed ordered room service and plan on watching Barcelona v Real Madrid in my room.
Monday 2nd May 2011
Marian drove me over to the airport this morning for my 11.30am flight to Heathrow T5 and then onward from T3 to Barcelona.   The courtesy car driver couldn't remember where he left his car which was quite funny.   The hotel is 25mins from the airport but he is now lost and we have been driving for an hour and we're still not there.......but patience is my middle name (not)   I'm sharing the car with last year's PGA Champion Simon Khan (Arsenal fan) so of course the Vidic incident was a definite hand ball and Michael Owen dived....same old Arsenal.
