Madrid Masters 4RD 73+70+69+76=288 (LVL)

I was 35 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine which all adds up to an ugly 76 blows!   This week I played really good for 63 holes then awful for the final nine.....strange but true.   In this game you've got to take your chances when they come and I didn't do that for the first 63 holes, I was then punished for the poor shots......which is fair enough.   It was very hot again today and I'm now on my way to the airport.........home tonight, nice!!!

Madrid Masters 2RD 73+70=143 (-1)

I played lovely today and shot 70 to finish one under overall which was a disgrace as had I been on the leaderboard it would have been about right.   I lost count how many birdie chances I missed and of course I finished bogey bogey to probably miss the cut by a shot.   I've hit so many good shots this week but that's how it goes sometimes.   It's unbelievably frustrating when you play good and get nothing from it.

Madrid Masters 1RD 73 (+1)

I played pretty good today, only hitting two shots off line but struggled with the putter.   I gave myself loads of chances but for some reason I couldn't get the line and speed at all, to be fair the greens have loads of slopes but it wasn't to be today......there's always tomorrow.
Wednesday 26th May 2010

I dropped the boys at school on Monday morning then Marian and I headed out on the bikes, we cycled as far as Drumoak and back along the Deeside Way.   It was great fun but my bum has been aching ever since.   I flew to Madrid on Tuesday morning with KLM through Amsterdam which is my favourite airport (Boss shop/Burger King) it's also so easy to transfer through.   I played the pro am yesterday morning, the course is in fantastic conditiion, I also really like Madrid as a city.

BMW PGA 4RD 71+69+71+71=282 (-2)

I'd another level par round of 71 today which left me 2 under for the week.   I played ok today but not great.   The story for me this week has been my short game, it has been really good for a few weeks now which as you know makes all the difference.   I left a few putts short in the jaws over the last few holes which was frustrating but overall I can't complain with my week's work.  Congratulations to Simon Khan for a fine victory this week.

BMW PGA 3RD 71+69+71=211 (-2)

I had two totally different nines today, I played really well on the front nine but holed nothing and then struggled on the back nine but putted lovely.   I shot level par 71 which leaves me 2 under and just inside the top ten.   It was very hot again with a little breezy which made the course pretty tough and scoring was slightly higher.

BMW PGA 2RD 71+69=140 (-2)

Today didn't start the way I had planned, I made a double bogey at the first but thankfully my attitude was fantastic and I finished with a 69 for a -2 total thanks to birdies at the last three holes.   My putting has been excellent again this week, it's amazing what a difference that makes.   The course was quite a bit tougher today with a wee breeze blowing which made club selection difficult.

BMW PGA 1RD 71 (LVL)

Finished with level par 71 today, my round was up and down with birdies, bogeys and an eagle but overall level is ok.   The course is probably 1 or 2 shots harder now but thankfully the weather has been pretty good.   I met with my new front of hat sponsor, Alpesh from Kalixa for a quick drink in the clubhouse after my round then headed by to the hotel to relax.
Wednesday 19th May 2010
I played the pro am this morning with three really nice guys, one of which was Ieuan Evans the Welsh rugby legend, we had a good laugh going round.   The changes to the course are actually really good but I think the 8th and 18th are quite severe.   It was a beautiful morning for scoring but as the course is much tougher we had very few birdies between us.   The field this week is magnificient with only Sergio Garcia missing so it's promising to be a great week.
Tuesday 18th May 2010
My flight to Heathrow yesterday was delayed by one and a half hours which was pretty lucky as I was expecting to have to drive to London cos of the ash.   I walked the course with Andy this morning as we are playing in the pro am tomorrow.   There have been a number of changes to the course since last year, mostly to the greens which have all been re built and re modelled.   The surfaces are better to putt on but when you make such drastic changes to a course you have played for years you're going to get a lot of different opinions.   Most of the changes are for the better but I would be surprised if they don't make some amendments after this week........but what do I know?   I hit quite a few balls today, trying to move in a little closer to the ball at address which went pretty well.   I also spent some time working with the putting tutor, again to continue improving my aim.
Sunday 16th May 2010

I dropped Craig at Dunecht House as he was playing in one of our Foundation stableford events, my thanks goes to everyone at Dunecht for looking after everyone so well.

Marian, Michael and I then headed to Murcar Golf Club for our end of season boys club golfing outing.   I gave a 30 minute golf clinic to all the kids and parents and the boys then played 9 holes around the Strabathie course.   The golf was followed by a buffet meal and the prize giving.   It was a nice sunny day and all the boys behaved really well.   Our thanks to everyone at Murcar Golf Club who were superb and looked after us extremely well.

A huge well done to the North East team who won the area team championships at Kinross, the team included Foundation memebers, David Law and Philip McLean.....well done lads!

I met Stewart Spence at the Marcliffe this morning for a catch up as I hadn't seen him for a while.   Marian and I then walked to Drum Garden Centre and back (around 10 miles) knackered doesn't do it justice I can tell you.   We then watched the Scottish Cup final, I thought Dundee United played well in the second half and were worthy winners.
Friday 14th May 2010
I left the house at 5.30am this morning to drive to Kingsfield driving range near the Forth Road Bridge to see Adam Hunter for a few hours.   He was looking great which was good to see.   We hit a few balls then played 9 holes, he noticed that I was standing to far away at address which makes sense as I have been hooking it a bit of late.   My posture was also a little slumped but the good news was my aim with the putter was much better.
Thursday 13th May 2010
I played at Deeside today with my Foundation team.   Philip McLean and I tied  on one under which was a decent score from the back tees in a strong wind.   I really enjoy these get togthers, as it's important to pass on as much as possible for them to develop properly.   I invited my nephew Sean along today as a guest, he's had a good start to the season reducing his handicap to 3 already.   I was down in Carnoustie in the afternoon for a meeting with a potential chest patch sponsor (it's all go)
Wednesday 12th May 2010
I have hit balls most mornings this week at Pine Lodge and I've spent the afternoons working on my short game at the house.   I have also managed a few 9 holes at Deeside with the boys.   Marian I had a meeting at the house today with Iain Powell, our Foundation manager.   He has settled extremely well into his new role.

Italian Open 4RD 67+73+73+71=284 (-4)

I had a very up and down day today with quite a few birdies and bogeys.   I got off to a perfect start with a birdie at the first but again hit it in the water at the 4th to make double bogey.   Eventually it all added up to a 71 -1 to finish four under for the week.   I flew from Turin direct to Aberdeen thanks to my new sponsorship deal with Cloud 9 personal aviation.   I gave my caddie Andy and his mate Ferret a lift as the ash cloud had closed Milan airport and their flight to Birmingham was cancelled, they then hired a car to drive down south.

Italian Open 3RD 67+73+73=213 (-3)

I got off to a horrible start today, +4 after 4 holes which was about right as I hit some awful shots.   Then I played really good and missed a load of birdie chances to finish with 73 +1 to be three under overall.   I missed from three feet at the last of birdie which is a pity as to get it back to par for the day would have been a good effort after my lovely start!   The positive thing today was my attitude was good which is unusual when it starts to go pear shaped.

Italian Open 2RD 67+73=140 (-4)

I played good this morning but struggled with the putter.   I shot 73 to be 4 under overall.   It rained quite a bit again this morning, we've certainly had a rough draw this week as yesterday morning was nice and it's nice now this afternoon for the other half of the draw.   I'm a little bit frustrated today as I hit it much better than yesterday but that's golf, I guess.

Italian Open 1RD 67 (-5)

It was a similar story today as last week, I struggled a bit with my long game but putted magnificently.   It's amazing how this game works, it doesn't matter how you hit it if you hole putts.   We only had a two hour delay this morning which was remarkable as there has been so much rain over the last few days.
Wednesday 5th May 2010
I received a text this morning from the tour informing me that the pro am had been cancelled.   I came up to the course to hit balls as the practise areas were open.   It briefly stopped raining around lunchtime but it's back on again.   My management team are here this week so they are taking me out for dinner tonight which will break the boredom slightly.
Tuesday 4th May 2010
I woke up a couple of times last night with rain battering against the window.   It hasn't stopped raining since we arrived here in Turin yesterday afternoon.   I went up to the course this morning but I was unable to do anything as everything is completely flooded so I have been watching dvd's in my room for hours!
Monday 3rd May 2010

We stayed in the Melia hotel last night which is close to Malaga airport then we flew to Milan this morning on Easy Jet.   Andy and Ferret were to tight to pay for speedy boarding (mind you, it was 6 quid!! )   The boys then gave me a lift to Turin in their hire car and it's pouring rain!!   I was pleased with last week but also disappointed as I had a good chance to win but hit a poor shot off 18 but there were so many positives.

Spanish Open 4RD 74+67+71+67=279 (-9)

I had another good day today shooting 67 to finish 9 under for the tournament.  I played solidly but the difference this week has been the putter.   Adam noticed on Monday that my putter was aiming left so I have been using a putting tutor to help me line up better.   I was ten under standing on the 18th tee looking to make birdie to give me a chance but hit a poor shot into the right rough then missed a short 5 feet putt but overall I have been pleased with this week.   Andy, his mate Ferret and I have hired a car and we're heading to Malaga tonight before flying to Milan tomorrow morning for next week's Italian Open.

Spanish Open 3RD 74+67+71=212 (-4)

I had an up and down day today.   I struggled a bit on the front nine especially with my short game, I gave away four shots (two three putts and two really poor chips from easy positions)   I played really good on the back nine shooting three under to finish with 71 for the day which leaves me 4 under for the tournament.
