Disappointing 73+1 this afternoon , hit it pretty much the same but made a few stupid mistakes and just couldn't get the ball in the hole when I had chances , overall after 3 weeks off t29 is decent , home tonight then next week off where I will be up at Skibo Castle for our annual Skibo pairs event raising money for PL Foundation.
Shot 69 (-3) today. Again drove it really good hitting 11/14 fairways and was probably the best I have rolled the ball with the putter for a long time , probably could have been a few shots less as hit so many good putts that slid by the hole but overall it was another decent day. We had a few showers and it was overcast all day but again pretty warm.
Congrats to our Michael on defending his Deeside Junior Championship today, winning the final 1up against Dylan Smith.
Hit it really nice this afternoon 11/14 fairways and 15/18 greens but struggled to score, ending up with 71-1 to be -5 overall. It was a lovely afternoon with just a wee breeze and pretty hot , the only shot I hit off line came at 18 with 3 wood second shot which resulted in a bogey 6 which is a pity but it has still been much better this week
Teed off at 8 20am this morning with Peter Hanson and Tyrrell Hatton from the 10th tee , it was a beautiful calm morning ideal for scoring. I hit it ok and rolled it nicely to shoot 68-4 which was decent as course is maybe a shot or two harder than the last time we played here , the greens are pure so scoring will still be very good. It was nice to see young Tyrrell play at a decent pace it's not something we see very often these days
I was up at the course today firstly to hit some balls then chip and putt for ages , as with all BMW events the facilities are excellent this week
Myself and 2 other Caledonia Ambassadors had photos taken on the putting green this afternoon which was a good laugh
On Sunday night we had a beautiful meal at moonfish restaurant with the Reids and the Morrisons, which we all bought at the Charlie house dinner a few months ago. It was the first time we had been there we will defo be going back food was excellent
I flew to Frankfurt at 05 30am yesterday morning to play golf with Claus ( Mr caledonia ) Robbie and now on my way to this weeks BMW international, we played at Frankfurt golf club which was very nice indeed. It was good to see Claus and the boys
I was up at Nairn golf club today to play with some invited juniors as part of our PLF north programme , I played 6 holes with each group then did a Q&A over lunch , thanks to everyone at Nairn golf club for looking after us so well , it's always something I really enjoy when I get the chance to play with kids and pass on some stuff I've learned over the years
I had a lovely day off yesterday which was nice then today I played at Loch Lomond with Michael Macdougall and my caddie Davy Kenny , we teed off at 11am the course was in magnificent condition especially the greens , I continued on from Sunday by hitting it and putting lovely to shoot -6
I had a golf day at PLGC today for Walker Technical who bought it at the auction of the Aberdeen Oilmans Golf aAsociation tournament at Gleneagles last year. The money goes to the Foundation, which is really good , we all had a good laugh as was very relaxed. We played a Texas scramble format which worked well on the par 3 layout , I gave a clinic in the morning then played 2 holes with each group , thanks to Willie Rennie for buying it at auction
This weekend couldn't have gone any better - the weather was pretty good with everyone loving the format and the course , I shot 55 (+1 )yesterday to be 6 shots behind Stevie Gray and Michael Stewart. I got off to a lovely start this morning with birdies at the first three holes playing the first nine in 22 (-5) then had it -10 with two to play but a pulled tee shot at 17 and a blocked 6 iron at 18 meant I finished bogey , bogey which was disappointing but still a nice 46-8 which was good enough for a play off with Greg Mcbain. We both parred the first extra hole then I birdied the second to win it , massive thanks to all the competitors , staff at PLGC and Clarets for all their hard work , also Michael Macdougall for running a very smooth event
SGU Boys Area Team Championships
Saturday morning Michael and I picked up Sam Locke from his house to drive down to Tulliallan for this weekend's boys area team championships , it's a 4 player team of Michael , Sam , Calvin Cheyne and Callum Bruce. North East have been runners up the last two years but never really contended this time but it's all really good experience for them all , the course / food and organisation were all first class
PLF Scottish Schools Golf Campionships
We drove to Murrayshall from Tulliallan on Sunday night as both Sam and Michael were playing 36 holes inthe Foundation sponsored Scottish schools event , they both shot +4 total to finish in a tie for 8th , after playing 36 holes on Sunday then 36 at murrayshall I assume the boys are pretty tired , huge thanks to everyone involved in the event which was again all very well run and organised.
I was at murcar links this morning to play a few holes and walk a few with Mike Stewart who will be our Tournament Director from the European Tour. It was ideal to chat to Mike to get his thoughts on tee positions etc and gave me a chance to put over my thoughts. The course is looking really good and will be a perfect venue for a matchplay event. I have been working hard on my short game this week as my stats have been pretty poor lately which is odd but I have been missing more greens than normal which means more chipping and pitching
