June 2011
Thursday 30th June 2011
I have done very little the last few days giving my neck a chance to settle down.   It feels a little better but not much, it still feels very tight and stiff.   I watched a bit of Andy Murray winnng his quarter final match at Wimbledon, it would be great if he could win.   We had a long lie this morning as the boys are now on their summer holidays.....awesome.
Tuesday 28th June 2011
I pulled out of this week's French Open this morniung as the muscle in my neck was sore again yesterday so I have decided it would be better to rest it this week instead of the risk of making it worse.   I spent some time in the garage this afternoon checking my loft and lies and changing a few grips.
Monday 27th June 2011
I played at Sunningdale this morning with some Aberdeen Asset guests, it was really hot and sticky.   The course was in very good condition as ever.   We had some photos taken early morning with the other Aberdeen Asset sponsored pros, there was also a film crew so it was full on.   I'm now on the shuttle heading home.

BMW Open 4RD 66+72+74+73=285 (-3)

I shot 73 today and it was the same story as yesterday, I played good on the front nine (-2) and then horrible on the back nine (+3)   For some reason I have really struggled on the back nine over the weekend.   Overall this week I played and putted good for the first 33 holes and then played some awful golf at the week end.   I fly to London tonight as I have an Aberdeen Asset Management golf day at Sunningdale tomorrow.

Huge congratulations to the Deeside Junior Pennant team who won the Aberdeen & District Junior Pennant League this afternoon at Peterculter.   Craig and Michael were both in the team.   Well done to everyone, great achievement!!

BMW Open 3RD 66+72+74=212 (-4)

I shot 74 +2 today, I hit it good on the front nine but missed 5 putts inside 10 feet.   Then on the back nine I hit some poor shots so I've no problem with that.   I hit a lot of good putts that missed today which can happen so overall I'm not to bothered about shooting +2 especially after hearing that Michael our youngest son won the final of the handicap trophy today at Deeside.   Well done pal.....very proud of you.

BMW Open 2RD 66+72=138 (-6)

I was level par 72 today but should have been a lot less as I was three over for the last three holes which is a pity but there's not much you can do.   I was raging when I came off the course as I hate dropping shots at the end of my round......it's never good.   I had a sore neck all day which meant I was unable to hit it at full speed, I went to see the physio after my round and it turns out that my rhomboid muscle was very tight so he worked on it for a while and said not to hit balls this afternoon.   He will work on it again tomorrow morning, I'm obviously getting old as I seem to be having constant niggles.

BMW Open 1RD 66 (-6)

I shot 66 -6 in the pouring rain, I played really good and putted awesome.   We had rain for 16 holes which was tough going but there was no wind so at least the rain was coming straight down and not sideways.   I hit a poor 6 iron at the 17th and an awful driver at the 18th but apart from that I hit it afa good all day.

Wednesday 22nd June 2011
It was very hot and humid today which was nice but tiring.   I played in the pro am this morning, the course is excellent especially the greens.  I only hit a few balls after lunch as it was too hot to stand there beating balls.   We did some short game and putting and I'm now heading back to the hotel in a BMW 750 courtesy car......nice!!
Tuesday 21st June 2011
I was up at the course early this morning to hit some balls.  I also did some work on the splendid short game area and then played 12 holes with Kennie Ferrie.   The course is a little soft but in very good condition.   There's a new tee at the fourth which makes the hole 35 yards longer.   I came back and went to the gym for an hour.   I play at 8.30am tomorrow in the pro am.
Monday 20th June 2011
I flew at 2pm to Heathrow and then at 5.30pm to Munich with BA.   The flight was choppy, looks like there's been a lot of rain.   I unpacked then went straight to sleep.
Sunday 19th June 2011

I had a very quiet day yesterday only doing some chipping and putting at the house, the weather was so horrible.   Today I was at Newmachar to watch Craig and Michael play for Deeside in the Junior Pennant Semi Final against Banchory which Deeside won by 4 and a half to one and a half.   The final is on Sunday at Peterculter which they are both looking forward too.

Craig and I watched a bit of the US Open in the evening.   Rory's performance was out of this world, breaking loads of records but people now need to let him play and stop saying stuff like 'He will break Jack Nicklaus's major record' etc.......he doesn't need that.   He has so much talent it's going to be exciting for him, he's a great guy with lovely parents.   I will him well.

Paul Lawrie Invitational 3RD 70+65+65=200 (-10)

It was the final round of the Invitational today, I shot 65 again which finished ten under and one shot short of the play off between Kennie Ferrie and Andrew McArthur.   Andy eventually won at the 6th extra hole.   This week has been really good with everyone saying how much they have enjoyed it.   My thanks to all the players (especially Kennie Ferrie) for playing this week.   Thanks also to Michael McDougall and all the staff at the PGA and everyone at Deeside Golf Club for making us so welcome.   But of course the biggest thank you is to the sponsors.....Aberdeen Asset Management, Saltire Energy, Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, Hunting and Farmfoods and also to Finnies the Jeweller for the Ebel watch for low round of the week (Andrew McArthur 62)  I'm happy but tired.   Hopefully we can grow the event for next year.

Paul Lawrie Invitational 2RD 70+65=135 (-5)

I got off to the perfect start today, with birdies at the first two holes then hooked it out of bounds at the third.   However I played good again and shot 65 -5 to be three shots behind three players who are eight under, one of which is Andrew McArthur who shot 62 today which is a very good knock.   The cut fell at three over which leaves 37 players tomorrow for the final round.

Paul Lawrie Invitational 1RD 70 (LVL)

I played good but putted awful (sounds familiar)   I played with Scott Henderson and Peter Smith which was good crack.   It was a little tricky today with the wind swirling around a bit.   I'm off to the putting green.........for a few hours!!
Tuesday 14th June 2011

We had the pro am today at Deeside for my Invitational which was played in brilliant sunshine.   There were 19 teams with one score to count, it was won by Farmfoods team no 1 with a score of 55....well done lads.   Huge thanks to everyuone at Deeside Golf Club, I thought everything today was top class.   I play with Scott Henderson and Peter Smith tomorrow at 10.56am   I'm looking forward to it but I'm now off to bed, totally exhausted!!

kemnay.jpg

I took Craig to school and Marian dropped Michael at Countesswells as he's away to Edinburgh this week on a school trip.   I hit some balls at Deeside then Marian and her Dad and myself put up some sponsors boards for our Invitational this week. (Well........ I supervised)   I was at Kemnay Golf Club at 2pm to open their new junior facility which includes a 6 hole par 3 course, driving range and a short game area which is really good........well done to everyone involved.   I went to Craibstone to watch the Aberdeen School's Final between Robert Gordon's College and Torry Academy which Torry won quite comfortably by 3-0.....well done!   It was very windy and not easy, all the matches were played in good spirit.   I presented the prizes sponsored by the Foundation.   Thanks to Derek Johnstone for all his hard work throughout the year and to Craibstone for hosting the final.   We will be back at Deeside early tomorrow morning to put up the remaining signs then we have a 1pm shotgun pro am.

Sunday 12th June 2011
I was at Deeside today for one of our Foundation flag/stableford events, we had another fantastic turnout with over 100 boys and girls taking part.   Michael played in the stableford and shot 76 nett 67 for 39 points which finished joint third.   It was a beautiful day which makes all the difference.   Well done to all the prize winners.   Next stop Cruden Bay next Saturday..........see you there.
Saturday 11th June 2011
Marian's auntie and uncle stayed last night with their wee dog Lola (our Westie Bobo wasn't very sociable!!)  We popped over to Cove to visit my Mum in the afternoon (Paul not sociable) only joking Mum your conversation was riveting as ever!   Craig played in the medal at Deeside ans shot 74 nett 70 so could be cut back to 3 hcp.   I also put on new grips on my clubs and checked the loft and lies.
Thursday 9th June 2011
Craig and I left early this morning as he was playing at Murcar in the Aberdeen Schools Golf Championships sponsored by my Foundation.   After he had teed off I popped to Royal Aberdeen to give David Law a putting lesson for an hour then I hit some balls myself between the heavy showers.   Craig was out in level par but back in nine over for an 80.   Chris Lamb won the the scratch with an excellent 71 but failed to show up at the prizegiving which was disappointing but maybe he had a good reason.   Craig had a lesson with Billy Fyfe at Aspire in the evening.......it's been a busy day but all good.
Wednesday 8th June 2011
I did the school run again this morning then did some putting practise at Deeside and short game work at the house.   I had a CT scan at Albyn on my foot in the afternoon and then  I met Michael McDougall from the PGA to finalise bits and pieces for the Invitational next week.   I popped down to watch Craig play a few holes in the medal this evening.  He did well to shoot 72 and should get cut at least .1   I had a light cycle for half an hour to test out my foot which felt ok.
Tuesday 7th June 2011
I took the boys to school this morning then headed down to Deeside to hit some putts on my putting arc.   I then had a cortisone injection at Albyn Hospital which wasn't as bad as I remember from the last time.   The plan is to have my foot operated on after I play the Volvo Champions event next January then take a few months off to let it heal.   I was also busy today finalizing things for my Invitational next week at Deeside.   Huge thanks to our sponsors.....Hunting, Aberdeen Asset Management, Saltire Energy, Marcliffe Hotel and Spa and Farmfoods.   Thanks also to Highland Spring who are supplying water and Finnies the Jeweller for a lovely watch for the low round of the week and of course, to Deeside for coutesy of the course..............It's going to be a great week.   I hope we see some spectators coming along.
Monday 6th June 2011

Craig and I left the house early this morning to drive to Murrayshall Golf Club for the Scottish Schools Golf Championship sponsored by my Foundation.   The event was played over both courses, Craig did well in the morning shooting 1 over 74 but he struggled in the afternoon taking 79.   It was again very well ran by The Scottish Schools Golf Association.

I am getting a cortisone injection in my left foot tomorrow which I'm not looking forward to as I hate needles, especially big ones.  (I know.......man up!!)

Sunday 5th June 2011
I was out at Alford Golf Club today for one of our flag/stableford events to watch the kids play and to present the prizes.   I absolutely love going along to events, the kids are brilliant and the standard is very high.
Saturday 4th June 2011

4.30am alarm calls are never good on Saturday mornings (yes I know......play better then)   I got a taxi from Celtic Manor to catch my flight from Heathrow and arrived home at 10.30am.   I went down to Deeside for lunch and hit some balls in the afternoon.

Wales Open 2RD 75+76=151 (+9)

Today was pretty much the same as yesterday, I drove it a little better but not much.    I shot 76 to finish +9 total which is awful stuff if I'm honest.   The wind was quite a bit stonger today which made it tricky.   I can not get home tonight so it's a taxi at 5am to Heathrow tomorrow morning.   I have two weeks off now which I will be spending hitting loads of balls to try and find what's missing.
Thursday 2nd June 2011

Wales Open 1RD 75 +4

I hit only 4 fairways today, I drove it so poorly I was surprised it was as many as four.   I teed off from the 11th and had a couple of chances for birdie early on but hit it in the water at the 14th and ran up a triple bogey 7.   When you drive it as poorly as I did today it makes it so hard to score.   I spent 3 hours on the range after my round hitting balls.

Wednesday 1st June 2011
I was second game off this morning in the pro am with a Celtic Manor team which included the captain.   We were round in 4hours 15mins which was nice and quick.     The course has recovered from the Ryder Cup very well and is in very good condition.   I popped into the media centre to call Rob McLean at BBC Radio Scotland for an interview for Saturday's Golf Show presented by Rob and Alan Tait which is a new show.    I hit some balls afterwards working on my rhythm as it felt a little quick today.
