Tuesday 30th June 2009

Yesterday Marian and I headed into town for a few bits and pieces and some lunch.   I spent all afternoon working on short game at the house in preparation for the Open.   I focused on pitch and runs mainly and short putts, trying to build up some confidence.   I also saw Gillian Mitchell in the evening which was an easy session as I have had no problems with my back etc.

I have just arrived a CDG Paris where they have a baggage belt problem which is not great when it's 28 degress!

I hit some balls and played 9 holes this morning with Craig and Michael.   The little bandit that is Michael scooped the cash quite easily.   I had some lunch then saw Frank Coutts for a half hour lesson.   I have known Frank for many years and he will take a look at me every two weeks to keep an eye on my long game.   I had a little to much weight on my heels and left side at address but overall it looked good.

I got home late last night via Amsterdam.   I hit balls all morning at Deeside today as I have been a wee bit lazy with my practise lately so it's time to put in a bit of work.   I also spent quite a bit of time working on my putting trying to shorten my stroke as it gets long which causes me to decelerate to much.

BMW 2RD 72+71=143 (-1)

I played the tougher nine today in two under but was one over on the easier nine.   The cut is looking like 2 or 3 under so I'm heading home through Amsterdam.   Overall I played ok this week but didn't make enough birdies.   The course is pretty easy so the scoring is normally low.

BMW 1RD 72 (LVL)

Level par 72 today, I played ok without really hitting it close and putted ok without holing much.   I got off to a bad start bogeying the first two holes then played pretty solid after that.   The course is extremely wet, we had to take casual water on pretty much every hole.   The greens are good condsidering the amout of rain but, of course there are a lot of heel marks around the hole.   My foot is giving me a bit of jip as the ground is soft and hard going.
Wednesday 24th June 2009

The course was very, very wet after days of rain.   It was surprising that we managed to play the pro am but it was playable and in good condition considering the weather.   BMW run some of the best events of the year especially the courtesy cars which are mainly 7 series limos.   I play in the afternoon tomorrow which will give my foot a nice rest as it wasn't too good this morning.

I just thought I would let my regular readers know that both my suitcase and clubs arrived safely in Munich.   I flew British Airways.....amazing I know but true.   We have arrived to heavy rain and apparently the forecast is for more of the same.
Monday 22nd June 2009
I played in the Kemnay Pro am today and shot 4 under.   I played really good on the front nine and then struggled when the rain came on around the turn but thankfully my short game was awesome.   The course was in fantastic condition especially the greens.   I played with Alan Reid who is one of my Foundation sponsors and also Colin Fraser and David Law.   It was a great laugh.   Philip McLean caddied for me, it was good for him and David to see me hit some poor shots but still make a score by scrambling.   You don't always hit it the way you would like, so hopefully they both learned a bit more today.   I fly to Munich tomorrow for this week's BMW International Open.   I am going to the gym tonight cos I'm in a horrible condition.....but not for long.
Saturday 20th June 2009

We were out at Insch today with Michael for a football tournament which was organised by one of my Foundation sponsors, Barry Duncan of CNR International.   My Foundation was the main sponsors, it was a great day with over 300 kids taking part.   We also had our new inflatable golf nets there with Ian Bratton from Newburgh and Simon from Pine Lodge Golf Centre giving free lessons all day.   The weather was really nice which certainly helps.

Tuesday 16th June 2009

After dropping the boys at school I went to see Gillian Mitchell, my osteopath for my fortnightly half hour of pain.   I hit quite a few balls at Deeside and played 9 holes.   I was also at AVC Media to record a video message for Hopeman Golf Club's centenary dinner.

Many congratulations to Nick Faldo on receiving his knighthood in the Queen's birthday honours list.   Six majors plus his fantastic work on his junior series.......he certainly deserves such an honour.

Sunday 14th June 2009
I was out for another bike run this morning then it was down to Deeside to walk round with Michael who was playing in one of our Foundation Flag events.   He played really well to win his age group.   Craig was also playing in the Foundation stableford competition and had 35 points.   It's great to see so many kids having fun and playing well.   My thanks to Deeside Golf Club for hosting us, both courses were in fantastic condition.
Saturday 13th June 2009
I was out for a bike run this morning along the Deeside Railway line towards Peterculter Golf Club.   It took me about 40 mins which was very enjoyable, apart from getting back up the hill to the house.   I helped Marian give out Westie a haircut, my job was to hold him and feed him biscuits....would have made a great picture for the P & J!
Friday 12th June 2009

Marian and I took a table last night at The Royal Princess Trust for Carers dinner at Harthill Castle.   There was 10 of us and we all had a great time.   We even managed to buy fishing for two.....I don't even fish!!.   I was also up dancing to Bjorn Again who were absolutely fantastic.

Today I was at Murcar Golf Club for a Foundation team get together.   Adam Hunter was up from Glasgow.   We did short game in the morning and then played 18 holes.   Ross Cameron scooped the cash with level par.   I will be off to bed early tonight....these late nights don't suit me.

Wednesday 10th June 2009
After the school run I went down to Deeside to play 9 holes.   I played as though I was on the's easy to get sloppy with your pracitse when playing bounce games.   A great quote is 'pracitse as you play then you'll play as you practise'.   I went back to Deeside later in the afternoon for 9 holes with my brother and my nephew, Sean.
Tuesday 9th June 2009

Neil Marr called me last night to inform me that he is unable to continue working with me and my Foundation, which is very sad as we have had a great relationship over the last two years.   On behalf of the Foundation kids that Neil has taught and myself I would like to say a huge thank you from us all.   Hopefully we can work together again in the future.

I played 9 holes with Graeme Lornie and Grant Carnie at Deeside this morning.   Deeside is in superb condition and I shot 7 under for the 9 holes.   My youngest son and I are planning another 9 holes after school.

Monday 8th June 2009

I was down at Carnoustie today for the Scottish Schools Golf Tournament which is sponsored by my Foundation.   The golf was of a very high standard and congratulations goes to all the prize winners.   Murray and I played a few holes on each course today all of them were in excellent condition.   There is still a shiver goes down my spine when I drive into Carnoustie!

Celtic Manor Wales Open 1RD 79 (+8)

I got off to a terrible start today with two bogeys in the first four holes.   I shot 79 and actually played ok but yet again got severely punished for any shot off line.   I had 37 putts today, my only single putt was on the 7th and it was from 18inches for a birdie.   I admit I struggled with ball striking but it's impossible when you putt that poorly.   My left foot has been sore again so I have decided not to play tomorrow and return home to rest it.
Wednesday 3rd June 2009
I was first off at 8am in the pro am this morning.   I played with three very nice Welsh lads and it was a beautiful morning.   There are a few new tees from last year, the 14th has gone from a driver, wedge hole to a 4 iron second shot.   Some trees have been taken down at the 15th so you can now see the green from the tee.   The course is in good condition and is starting to bed in really well.
Monday 1st June 2009
I dropped the boys at school then went into the gym for an hour, it's time to get a bit fitter again.   Marian and I spent most of the day in town doing different jobs.   I fly from Edinburgh tomorrow at 6pm for the Wales Open which is always a good week.
