Week beginning Monday 25th July
I was at Royal aberdeen on Monday and Tuesday to watch Michael play in the Scottish amatuer championship , he won at the 19th in the first round but lost 2&1 in the second round , the course was magnificent considering the rain we've had
I pulled a muscle in my neck on Monday morning while drying myself after a shower ....... I know unreal eh , I saw Our Physio at Plgc Lindsay smart all week but it was Saturday before I could hit balls which is frustrating and one more injury to add to the list
We are dropping Michael and Sam Locke at Glasgow airport today (sun ) who are both playing for scotland in the home internationals next week , this will be Michaels first cap for his country which is very exciting for him with his mum and I very proud
We will then go to Archerfield for next weeks AAM PL matchplay
Farmfoods British par 3
I was unable to play the British par 3 this week as I hurt my neck like I said earlier but Craig played and finished a very good 8th , I was gutted as it's an event I've done well in and it's sponsored by Eric herd at farmfoods who is a massive supporter of everything we do but sometimes injuries can't be helped
We're just back from a few days in Skye with the Reids and the Morrisons , we stayed at the Skeabost hotel which was very nice indeed. Marian planned a walk each day then a few holes of golf each afternoon , the scenery was incredible and if you havn't been I would highly recommend a visit. We were lucky with the weather as it rained most nights but was dry during the day , the five and a half hour drive was a bit of a pain but well worth it
The Open - Royal Troon 14-17 July.
I arrived at Troon on Monday evening after watching Michael play his first round at Fairmont St. Andrews in the Scottish Youths. I played a few holes on Tuesday afternoon and managed to work on a few bits and pieces on the range. I played really early on Wednesday morning with Darren Clarke which was good fun and brilliant to see the whole course which was in fantastic shape as always. I shot 72-74-74-74 with some decent ball striking but was very poor on the greens , as always the spectators at the open were different class , henrik stenson played some of the best golf ever to shoot -20 and win by three shots from phil mickleson, who himself would have won 140 or the previous 144 opens with his score of -17
The other news from the open week was that I have re-signed with wilson staff until the end of 2017 at least , I have played some of my best golf using the wilson brand clubs and am very much looking forward to representing them again
Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open 2016
Marian and I are just home from this weeks AAM Scottish Open. I really struggled yesterday, shooting 81+9 which was incredibly disappointing as you can imagine. I hit it poorly and putted awfully, which is not a good combination and the wind was pretty strong. Today was a lot better from tee to green but again I struggled with the putter - only 17 players out of 151 putted worse this week. After a quick bite to eat Russell Knox and I took part in a q&a for AAM guests which was really good fun , then I met with RSM staff and guests at their simulator in the spectators' village. which was also great fun. I will hit and putt for hours over the weekend to try and get a feeling for next week's open at Troon.
