Hit it really solid this afternoon to win 5&4. It was breezy for most of the round but it calmed down towards the end , I was -2 for the 14 holes which was solid. I hit some nice shots when I got in front which is what you have to do. I play Chris Doak at 1pm tomorrow which will be good fun.
I played with Aberdeen legends Willie Miller and Russell Anderson as well as Alex Salmond which was really good fun , it was a wee tad breezy which made it tricky but the course is in amazing condition. After I finished, I took three penalties against Andrew Coltart only scoring 1 ( gutted ) for the sky sports programme this week which was a good laugh , we had the pro am reception and prize giving tonight at the Village Urban Resort which was really nice
I hit balls and played nine holes at PLGC this morning with Craig , Michael and Sam Locke which was good fun , we then popped over to Murcar which is looking incredible ahead of next weeks Saltire Energy PL Matchplay then 6 of us went to the Jamie Langfield testimonial game at pittodrie against Brighton which AFC won 1-0
Marian and I have been up at Skibo castle for a couple of days break with the Morrisons and the Reids , we've had a great time cycling , and golfing - playing 5 holes foresomes swapping partners each day which has been a great laugh , we head home tomorrow morning probably half a stone heavier !!
Last two days I've hit balls in the mornings at PLGC working mainly on taller posture at address , I've also had some interviews in the afternoon for next weeks Saltire Energy PL Matchplay which is really starting to take shape. I popped over to Murcar Links yesterday afternoon and was very impressed how the whole place looks , the hospitality units ,players lounge, etc are all up and looking great , the course also looked in perfect shape and now it's getting close we're all excited
Played and hit it nicely today but struggled on the greens again to shoot 73+1 (to finish -5 for the week and in 40th position). I'm a biT frustrated and disappointed right now but there are positives to take from the week , the support this week has been through the roof and as always The Open was a great experience. Congrats to Zach Johnson who is the Champion Golfer of the Year
Shot 74+2 which wasn't quite what I had in mind , my ball striking wasn't great and I struggled a bit on the greens but I was -1 after 11 and missed from 3 feet on 12 for birdie then 3 putted 13 , my head was bursting after that which was disappointing but always been a part of the game I've struggled witH. I made double bogey at 17 from just short of the green in 2. Again the support was amazing ,both Marc and I loved it but both wish we had scored a bit lower
We re-started this morning at 7am but it was blowing a gale which resulted in us only playing one hole, which was frustrating but the wind was blowing the balls on the greens which is unplayable. We sat around all day waiting but we didn't re start until 6pm. I shot 70-2 to be -8 overall only 2 shots back heading into the weekend , I putted very nicely tonight holing 2 or 3 putts to keep it going. The fans were again amazing cheering me off every tee and onto every green today, can't thank them enough
It was pretty calm this morning and ideal for scoring. I hit it and putted nicely to shoot 66-6 which included 7 birdies and just the one bogey at the 17th. The support was amazing and very much appreciated
I teed off at 7am this morning the course is in fantastic condition but a wee bit soft in places , my foot was again pretty poor so went back to the room to rest up before the Champions Challenge. I teed off last at 5 16pm with Darren Clarke , Bill Rogers and our captain Arnold Palmer , we played the 1st,2nd then 17,18 with a best ball format , we tied on -3 with two other teams but won on account of having the highest age combined ....... It was a real treat and pleasure to play with Mr Palmer as well as Darren & Bill we all had a good laugh
Tonight was the past Champions Dnner upstairs in the R&A Clubhouse which as ever was a really good evening , I sat next to Sandy Lyle and Ian baker finch, who I played my first Open with in 1992 at Muirfield, during the third round. Captain George Macgregor and Tom Watson both made very good speeches
I drove down to St. Andrews this morning for this week's Open Championship. The Open is always a good week but it's special when it's played on the Old Course , I hit a few balls on the range and played a few holes but my foot was pretty sore today so I headed back to the hotel to ice it. Tonight we have the Champions' Dinner which is always a good night
Today was our annual challenge match and this year I played Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke , it was great fun with Darren giving me grief non stop , I have known him a long time and have always got on really well with him - our golf wasn't the highest of standards but we made up for it with the banter , big thanks to Eric Herd from farmfoods for sponsoring the match again this year and to everyone who came along to watch I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did
Struggled a bit off the tee today and was quite a bit more wind so 70 wasn't that bad an effort , overall it has been much better this week and t17 is a step in the right direction but TBF I'm looking for better but it's a start .Congrats to Rickie Ffowler on winning by one shot with a birdie at 18. Thanks to everyone at Aberdeen Asset Management , visit scotland , European Tour and Gullane golf club for another fantastic Scottish Open
Got off to perfect start today by making birdies at the first two holes then really struggled on the greens again, stroke felt really long and decelerate which is an old habit I sometimes fall into , had so many chances today but couldn't get it in very frustrating. Went to the putting green to work on shortening the stroke so hopefully better tomorrow
Shot 67-3 again which was pretty much the same as first round hit a lot of fairways and greens but holed very little , but to be fair I wasn't really hitting it that close so would have been tough to have been much less , the wind picked up a wee bit at start of back nine but it was again a lovely day
Teed off at 07 50 which was a little chilly but a very nice morning with just a wee breeze , shot 67-3 hit it very good but holed very little even though again I rolled it superbly. Greens were very nice but a little slower maybe cos of heavy showers overnight , scoring was good with Olesen shooting 63 which to be fair was on but still good score
I was off in the 1pm shotgun pro am this afternoon which as always was good fun , today was tartan Wednesday with a lot of people wearing something tartan , the course is in magnificent condition and all set up to be a great week
I got up to the course early this morning and a few balls to warm up I played the course , the condition of the course is second to none this week with the greens rolling especially well. The rough is juicy in spots but is well off the fairway so if your in it you deserve to have a tough lie. It was pretty breezy this morning which it will need to be as scoring will be good if it's calm but there are quite a few good par 4s So maybe not that easy. We have a drinks reception at Edinburgh castle tonight which should be fun.
I was up at Gullane GC most of today chipping and putting and hitting a few balls , the facilities are first class massive thanks to everyone involved as must have been a lot of work , was a big blow for everyone especially Rory himself to hear of his injury which will keep him sidelined for a while I wish him a speedy recovery
I was down at North Berwick this weekend to walk round with Craig who was playing in the AAM Scottish Open qualifier. it was played over 36 holes with 50k of prize money and 5 places up for grabs in the Scottish Open next week , Craig shot 73 + 66 to finish on -3 which should finish in the top 30 which is all good experience for him , North Berwick was really good venue and the event was a very good idea
We were up at Skibo Castle for a couple of days for our annual PLF pairs event, we had 14 pairs who played golf with quite a few wives and partners joining us for dinner in the evening. Skibo Castle was again magnificent would be hard to think of a nicer place anywhere in the world to spend time , this year our special guest was Gordon strachan who played golf then entertained everyone with a very funny Q&A after dinner , massive thanks to everyone who played and of course everyone at Skibo Castle as well as foundation manager Michael MacDougall for looking after us all
