Yas Links

We played at yas links yesterday which was in fantastic condition and was a very nice day the course was very busy so play was pretty slow with every tee time fully booked and all four balls but we all had a great day , it was the first time the boys had played there and were both really impressed with the whole place as was I

Craig & Michael hitting a few before we played Yas Links.....

We are staying at jebel Ali hotel for 12 days the first few days it was windy but the last few has been really nice , me and the boys have played 9 holes every afternoon the handicaps started as me +2, Craig scr, and Michael 2 with the winner each day going up a shot , we had dinner last night (Friday) with the Reids at the butchers shop in the mall of the emirates , the ex Liverpool striker Robbie fowler was also eating in there and asked me for a pic to which I replied only if I can get one too - he was really nice and is a keen golfer

Royal Trophy Day 3

I teed off first in the singles against Aphibarnrat from Thailand - we were two points behind so I knew Ole wanted some points back early but again I just couldn't get going and struggled to take my chances on the greens and Kiradech again played very well to win the match by 3&2 and with Jaidee also beating Stephen Gallacher we were up against it but the boys did an incredible job and managed to fight back and win by 8.5-7.5 which looked very unlikely at one point.  Again, Jose was everywhere and did a brilliant job this week. Stevie and I felt a bit funny with not contributing anything but its a team game this week and we came up against two in-form players who have been competing regularly for the last few weeks but its about the team and how well they did to comeback and win. After all the photos etc Jose made an emotional speech in the team room saying how much he had enjoyed the week and thanked everyone for their efforts etc. He's a complete Legend.  I flew direct to Dubai where I met Marian and the boys for our annual holiday   Cana wait

Royal Trophy

Stevie and I lost again today by 2&1 we both hit it good but again the Thai boys out putted us which is typical matchplay , the overall score is now 5-3 to the Asian team with 8 singles matches tomorrow

Wed 18th Dec

We played in the pro am this morning at 8am with three very nice guys from Brisbane Australia. They are here as guests of the president as he has just bought their golf club called Links Hope Island where I played  the Johnnie Walker Classic 1997.   The course this week is in good condition with some very good holes and should be exciting for the matchplay format.  We have the gala dinner tonight then the matches start at 11am tomorrow.

Mon 16th Dec

I hit balls at PLGC this morning then played 10 holes at Deeside with Craig where we both shot -3.   I then flew from Aberdeen to China via Paris for this weeks Royal Trophy.    I arrived at 5pm (Tues) local time and was met by photographers and a welcome party from dragon lake where we are playing and staying this week.   I had interviews and clothes fitting on arrival so its been all go.. I also met with captain Olazabal who is in fine form and like myself looking forward to the week ahead.

Sat 14th Dec

Last night Marian and I were invited to a friends house for dinner,  the whole night was fantastic fun and the food out of this world........... thanks Tim and Heather.

This morning I hit balls at PLGC with Craig and Michael again working on the pace of my swing on backswing and quieter legs.  Then I met with John Mathers for a couple of hours to continue the work we've been doing which im really enjoying.  Craig and I went to Pittodrie in the afternoon to watch Aberdeen v St Mirren which ended up in a 2-0 win for the Dons.   The weather was awful so it was a good performance in the conditions.

Wed 11th Dec

I was at Cruden Bay for a game today with 8 others including PLGC pros David Law, Phillip McLean, Kris Nicol, Billy Fyfe , Craig Dempster and my loon Craig L as well as Foundation manager Michael MacDougall and my nephew Sean.   It was a lovely day but quite windy and the course was in fantastic condition for this time of year , I put up prize money for first three places which were 1st me 66 2nd Kris Nicol 71 3rd Craig L 72    We all had a great time,  huge thanks to everyone at Cruden Bay especially the chef.......... best sausage rolls for ages!

Last couple of days

Marian and I were at Banchory GC today for a Q&A and book signing with the members which was very well attended and good fun and it was nice to see some faces from the past when I was an assistant pro there .

I played 9 holes  at Royal Aberdeen this morning with Craig and David Law then watch Michael play for Robert Gordon's in the semi finals of the Independent Shools tournament against Loretto school , Gordon's did really well and managed to win against a much stronger team which was brilliant.

Michael MacDougall and myself were down at the sports village in the evening to present all the footballers in our Foundation boys club with their Christmas presents they have all been doing really well with some good results.   Huge thanks to all the boys and the coaches for representing the Foundation so well this year.

Fri 6th Dec

Marian and I were down at Buckingham Palace today.   I receive an OBE from Prince Charles.   As I have already said many times before this accolade is for my wife Marian and all of our Foundation managers, sponsors , parents and kids who have all made the Foundation what it is today , some very posh folk there today for this kemnay loon to chat with.  Lol.

Last few days

Marian and I were down in Glasgow for the weekend as Marian was at Caroline Hunters birthday party then we went shopping on Saturday and watched Aberdeen play Patrick Thistle at Firhill on Sunday which wasn't a great game but a good result with a one nil win.   On the way down I had meeting with John Mathers at his house in Stirling.   John is a sports psychologist who I will be doing some work with.

On Sunday night we had our first members night at PLGC where members were invited for a drink/ mince pie with discounts on shop stock.   It was a big success with a lot of members in attendance which was great to see.

On Monday I had my regular morning meeting with Paul Third from the P&J for my weekly column then I met with Craig Martin from We Film Golf to discuss a possible DVD for next Xmas which will include short game / rules/ course management etc

Today our accountant Phillip was up all day to run through our stuff from this year.

I have also been hitting balls every morning.
