December 2011
Monday 19th December 2011

After dropping the boys at school I had an eye test at Kirkwood Fyfe as I felt my eyes had deteriorated since having laser surgery in 2001.   Results said they had but not enough for more laser treatment.   I hit quite a few balls at Deeside (in between cups of tea from the pro shop)

We were all at the Sports Village in the evening handing out Christmas cards and presents to our Foundation Boys Club and coaches.  It was great to see them all together.   Huge thanks to all parents, coaches and of course the boys for all their hard work this year.

Thursday 15th December 2011

I only hit a few balls as my neck/shoulder was hurting a bit and I didn't want to make it worse.

I was at the Tree Tops in the afternoon for a Q & A with Foundation sponsors Amec which was good fun.   They also announced their sponsorship for next year would increase to £7K which was a great surprise and very much appreciated.

I had my fortnightly crunch with Gillian and then home to bed early.

Wednesday 14th December 2011

I was down in Glasgow at the Hilton Hotel for the PGA Scottish region lunch today.   Jean van de Velde and I were receiving lifetime recognition awards.  Dougie Donnelly did and Q & A with the two of us, Jean and I have never done that together before and it was a great laugh and very interesting to hear Jean's side of it.   Jock McVicar from the Daily Express also received an award which was nice to see as Jock had always been a very fair journalist.

We had a bit of drama last night, just as we were about to take off from Dubai the captain came on and said we would have to go back to the gate as a woman had taken poorly at the back of the plane.   We then took off two hours late which meant I missed my scheduled flight up the road.   The joys of travel.........hope the woman is alright.

Dubai 4RD 65+73+66+67=271 (-17)

I got off to a bit of a ropey start with ball striking but thankfully the putter was hot on the front nine 31 -5.   I bogeyed the 12th hole again which gave Alvaro a lift as I hadn't looked like making a bogey.   I lipped out on the 10th, 11th and 14th for birdies, all with good putts which was a pity but overall to shoot 67 -5 and give myself a chance to win was satisfying even though I'm disappointed not to win.   It's been a huge week for me and hopefully we can kick on now.   I fly home tonight, I'm really looking forward to seeing Marian and the boys.

Dubai 3RD 65+73+66=204 (-12)

Last night I hit balls till it was dark, working on standing a bit closer at address which did the trick as I hit it really nice today.   I shot 66 -6 with an eagle at the 18th.   I am now -12 for the tournament and in really good shape for tomorrow.   I know as well as anyone tomorrow is another day but I'm looking forward to it.

Come on the Dons, hopefully 3 points against St Mirren to make it a perfect day!

Dubai 2RD 65+73=138 (-6)

I got off to a great start but drove it poorly so struggled to keep it going.   I hit some really nice putts that lipped out so it could easily have been a whole different story.   I hit a couple of buckets of balls with the driver when I finished as it was awful today.

Dubai 1RD 65 (-7)

I played and putted awesome today to shoot 65 -7   I birdied seven out of ten holes from the fifth.   It was one of those really solid ball striking days and I knocked in any birdie chance I had.   John Huggan came back to my hotel with me to do some chapters for my book which has been good fun going back over stuff from years ago.

Wednesday 7th December 2011
I met John Huggan last night for a bite to eat and to duscuss some stuff for my book which is coming along nicely.   I went up to the course early this morning to play the front nine.   We teed off at 7.30am which was lovely and quiet.   The front nine is not as good as the back nine but it is in fantastic condition.   There are a lot of uphill shots on the front nine which is a pity.   I hit some balls and worked on my putting for a while and I'm now in the courtesy car heading back to the hotel to relax before the first round tomorrow.
Tuesday 6th December 2011
I fell asleep yesterday afternoon at 4pm and woke up at 1am but even more amazing was after watching my dvd for an hour I fell asleep again till 7.30am.   There were two shotgun pro ams today but I wasn't playing so I spent all day working on my game.   The facilities this week are as good as they get.
Monday 5th December 2011
I arrived into Dubai at 4.30am this morning.   The flight was 8 hours which was a little longer than I thought it would be.   All the players receive a room at the Atlantis Hotel this week which is very nice.   After a quick shower and some breakfast I headed up the course to do some practise and play 9 holes.   We played the back 9 which is very good and in awesome condition.   After lunch I had a putting lesson with Phil Kenyon who works with Harold Swash.   His thoughts were that my putter was aimed too far left at address which meant I had to compensate during the stroke.   He gave me an alignment mirror to help square the blade at address which I will work on tonight in the room.   The pro am is tomorrow which I'm not involved in so will be practising all day.   The weather was pretty hot today.

Hong Kong 4RD 69+70+69+75=283 (+3)

Today was as bad as it gets.   I hit it awful, putted woeful and my attitude was the worst of the year.   I haven't been too clever this week on the mental side but today was very poor but it happens, you've just got to deal with it and move on.   I fly to Dubai tonight for our last event of the year.
Saturday 3rd December 2011

Hong Kong 3RD 69+70+69=208 (-2)

I didn't hit it quite so good today so 69 -1 was a good effort.   My short game was very very good today with 6/6 up and downs.   I have been using a new putter this week, it's an Odyssey XG no7 which feels a little better.   My attitude has been poor this week for some reason (very grumpy)  Mind you that's normal.
Friday 2nd December 2011

Hong Kong 2RD 69+70=139 (-1)

It was a lot warmer and not so windy today but still tricky to get the ball close.   I shot 70 level to finished one under for the two rounds and just outside the top twenty.   It was a pretty boring day with nothing much happening apart from a double bogey on the 7th.   The cut came at +2
Thursday 1st December 2011

Hong Kong 1RD 69 (-1)

It was really windy today and with the greens being firm it was tough to get the ball close.   I hit it really good and should have been a few shots less especially as I bogeyed my final two holes but overall in the conditions 69 -1 wasn't too bad.
