Thursday / Friday
I flew to Frankfurt to visit the caledonia putters factory for a couple of days and to pick up a couple of new lineo models which are very nice indeed
I walked round Lossiemouth new course today as Michael was playing in the Sgu junior tour event , he shot 78 +8 and then withdrew as he's been struggling with a bad back which is a pity but it happens , the course was fantastic and played a little bouncy which made scoring tricky , congrats to Sam Locke who finished second overall which is fantastic
I saw my osteopath Gillian Mitchell this morning for my usual crunch and to keep working on trapped nerve in my neck . I also had an MRI scan on it at Albyn hospital which was fun....
Then in the evening Marian and I were at the Marcliffe for dinner with the Reids and the Morrisons which as always was really good fun and excellent food
I met Paul Third from the Press & Journal to do my weekly column then I walked round Lossiemouth new course with Craig and Michael as Michael is playing there on Saturday in the Sgu junior tour , the course was magnificent as was the weather , the boys had a game over the back nine with oldest junior winning the money
The boys were up against Ireland today - Michael again played with Sandy Scott in the morning foursomes , they had a really good match but unfortunately lost at the last when sandys shot hit a tree and no one saw where it went very bizarre indeed. Michael won his singles match in the afternoon by 2 holes the match ended in a 6-6 tie . Overall this week Michael won 4/6 points in his first attempt playing for Scotland which was very good indeed and fantastic experience for him, we flew back to Edinburgh last night then drove up the road dropping off Sam Locke in Stonehaven
The boys played Holland today which ended in defeat by 8-4 . They were really up against it after trailing 3-1 from the morning foresomes , Michael and his partner Sandy Scott were beaten on the final green this morning then Michael again won his singles match in the afternoon by 2&1 . It was pretty hot today which was nice after it being really cold yesterday , all 3 teams are now on two points each so all to play for tomorrow, Scotland play Ireland with Wales playing Holland
Michael and his partner Sandy Scott from Nairn won their match by 3&2 this morning and Michael won again in the afternoon by 4&3 with Scotland winning 9-3 overall against Wales they play hosts Holland tomorrow
We drove down to Edinburgh airport on Saturday night as we are off to Amsterdam with Michael on Sunday morning as he is playing for Scotland under 16s in the quadrangular match between Scotland , Wales, Ireland and the hosts Holland . The boys went out for 9 holes practice on Sunday evening
Official practice day today which was incredibly slow and cold and windy , Kevin Hale who is in charge of the boys this week asked me to give them a quick chat about my experiences of playing in team events which I'm just away to do as I write this . The matches start tomorrow with Michael and his partner Sandy Scott teeing off at 9am against the Welsh
Ps. I watched the Masters till the end last night I thought Bubba played very well and deserved to win - when you can hit it 366 yards off tees it certainly helps !! pity about Stevie Gallachers third round as the other three were top notch but still a very good showing for his first attempt and he'll learn so much from it.
We stayed on last night as it was a long day and its a bit of a hike back up the road . So after breakfast we headed home and straight to PLGC to hit some putts as with my trapped nerve that's about all I can do at the minute . I also did 45 mins on the bike in the afternoon as I need to shift a few pounds....
Again I putted at PLGC working on the same stuff of keeping putter on a straight back straight through path which is starting to feel good . I'm just away to see my osteopath Gillian Mitchell to see if trapped nerve has improved any
Michael was three down after 12 holes this morning but managed to dig deep and won his match at the 19th hole . The match ended a bit strange as his opponent hit it out of bounds off the 19th hole then conceded the match without bothering to hit a provisional !! Very strange. He played again in the afternoon losing 5&4 to third seed Ben Kinsley Michael gave away too many holes early on and Ben played solid to win the match pretty easily. It was good experience for Michael and he will learn from it.
Marian drove down last night and we both walked round with Michael this morning . He won his match by 4&3 which was good , it was a little windy with a few showers but overall pretty good for this time of the year . Michael had his first press conference after his round and did really well chatting to the guys . He plays tomorrow at 10 25am
With press: Ed Hodge, Jock MacVicar, Michael McEwan and Steve Scott
Michael's not starting till tomorrow so we went through to Loch Lomond for the day where he played the back nine and hit some balls .It was very quiet so ideal it's always nice to spend time there and the course was wet but very good , his first round match is Tuesday morning at 9 30am
Michael and I drove down to West Kilbride for practice round for this weeks Scottish boys , Adam Fisher and Sam Locke also joined Michael so that myself and my caddie Davy Kenny could pass in some tips to them all , Davy and his mate Dominic Bott have set up a new company called "Caddie Consultancy" to help golfers with their course management etc , Davy was brilliant with the boys so they should have learned a lot.
I went to the mall for a bit this morning then flew home overnight from Houston arriving into Aberdeen at 4pm on Thursday
I had an appointment with my osteopath for this morning anyway which was ideal as I've been struggling with a sore shoulder and neck turns out I have a trapped nerve so will be getting some treatment and resting it for a while. Its seems to be one thing after another just now which is frustrating as I'm really keen to get my head down and work my butt off to get back in there but need to be patient. ( not my middle name )
I was at Lochinvar golf club today for a golf day with Hunting Energy Services and their guests , it was again perfect weather and great fun I gave a short game clinic then played 3 holes with each group , I head home tomorrow and have really enjoyed my time in Houston
I had a company golf day for Pentagon Freight at the Nicklaus course at Carlton Woods today, it was a beautiful day and great fun , I gave a clinic in the morning then played 3 holes with each group then finished off with dinner at Perrys steak house nearby which was very good , Carlton Woods really is an awesome place to play your golf and today was organised very well.
